Learning Begins with Wonder

A child’s first classroom often begins with small things

a shelf of books within reach, a table for drawing, toys that invite curiosity and play. This year, several preschool classrooms received support from the Atmosphere Foundation to make those early learning spaces more welcoming and engaging for young students.

In N. Henbadhoo, the island council approached Atmosphere Foundation while planning improvements to the local preschool classroom. Alongside structural repairs and new furniture, the Foundation supported the learning environment by providing books, play sets, board games, and a drawing easel, helping teachers create a classroom where children can explore reading, drawing, and play.

A similar effort is underway in HDh. Neykurendhoo, where the council is refurbishing its preschool facilities. The Foundation is supporting the educational component of the project by providing learning books, educational toys, lockers, and cupboards to help organise and enhancing the preschool classroom environment.

Support also extended to Falah Preschool in Male’, where learning materials and classroom resources were provided to strengthen the everyday experience of early childhood education.

Across these classrooms, the aim is to create spaces where young children feel curious, comfortable, and eager to learn. Teachers have already noted that children are spending more time at drawing tables, reaching for books, and gathering for story time.
