Embroidery Camp for Children – Laamu Kalaidhoo

During the September school holidays

the Kalaidhoo Community Centre filled with students who gathered for a week-long embroidery camp organised by the local NGO Kalaidhoo Wings. For many of the participants, it was their first experience learning how a simple needle and thread could slowly form patterns and pictures on fabric.

Under the guidance of trainer Ms. Fazeela Ismail, the students spent each day practising basic embroidery techniques, choosing colours, and working patiently through their first designs. As the days passed, small stitched patterns of flowers, shapes, and personal motifs began to appear, each piece reflecting the student who created it.

By the end of the camp, 21 students had completed their first embroidered projects, proudly displaying their work during a closing session attended by parents and community members. As part of the programme, the students also visited the Kalaidhoo Bamboo Park, connecting their creative workshop with the Foundation’s wider environmental initiatives.
