AinI aai Velaa is a children’s book that introduces young readers to the life of a sea turtle and the delicate marine world that surrounds the Maldives.
Created in partnership with the Olive Ridley Project Maldives, the book is written in Dhivehi and designed to help children build a sense of connection with the ocean and the animals that share it. Through storytelling, it gently introduces ideas about marine conservation and the importance of protecting sea turtles and their habitats.
sessions encouraged people to reflect on everyday choices, from reducing waste to caring for natural spaces, and how these choices shape the health of the islands over time.
Recognising the value of the story, Atmosphere Foundation stepped forward to sponsor the printing of 1,000 copies, ensuring that the book can reach classrooms, libraries, and young readers across the country. For many children, Aini aai Velaa may be their first introduction to the journey of a sea turtle, and perhaps the beginning of a lifelong curiosity about the ocean that surrounds their islands.
