Pineapple Planting – Addu Hithadhoo

Some projects begin with big plans. This one began with 60 pineapple heads.

In Addu Hithadhoo, Atmosphere Foundation worked with the local NGO Veshisaafu to distribute pineapple planting material to community members interested in trying their hand at growing the fruit. Pineapples are well suited to island gardens because they make hardy plants that take root easily and reward patience with sweet harvests.

The pineapple heads were planted in home gardens and small plots, where they will slowly grow over the coming months. With time and care, the plants will produce fruit that can be shared among families and neighbours.
