Elders’ Outdoor Gatherings – Kalaidhoo

In Kalaidhoo, plans are underway to make sure the island’s elders have more chances to step out, meet friends, and enjoy the island together.

Atmosphere Foundation has partnered with the local NGO Kalaidhoo Wings to organise quarterly outings for residents aged 65 and above, beginning in 2026. The idea is simple: arrange small trips where elders can visit scenic spots, spend time outdoors, and share conversation away from their usual routines.

Each outing will include transport, light physical activities such as walking and simple games, and plenty of time to sit, talk, and enjoy the day. The programme aims to reduce isolation and bring people together in a relaxed, welcoming setting.

Sometimes the best support a community can offer its elders is simply the chance to gather, move a little, and spend time together.
